Le Bouchon de Saigon
What happens in Le Bouchon
stays in Saigon…, an interesting slogan of this French bistro.
Walking to IDECAF (Institut d’Échanges Culturels avec la France) three times a week, I always passed Thai Van Lung street (District 1) – that’s how I knew a new French bistro was going to be opened.
One Friday evening, around 6.45 p.m. we just felt like going there. My loved one has set an SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) of us going to French restaurant i.e. I have to make the reservation myself and in French!! -L-J
My loved one looked at me and said “Quatre personnes? C’est seulement moi et toi, deux personnes!” #Alamak…I was nervous when the French lady picked up the phone and I couldn’t count fast -J Anyway, we walked to the bistro and in fifteen minutes we got a table for two instead of four.
Les Moules Frites |
A glass of champagne upon sitting on
the table is great! J’aime bien les moules frites. It is a popular dish consisting of mussels and french fries. The two recipes of moules frites in this bistro is good.
By
the way, it is a good idea to save a little bit of space for dessert, you
cannot resist profiteroles. It is
cream puff with whipped cream or ice cream and garnished with chocolate sauce.
Les Profiteroles |
La Fourchette
It sounds very French and indeed it means fork. As per our SOP, I had to make the reservation
in French and I learned from the previous experience.
Clams as appetizer |
“Bonsoir”, “Bonsoir Madame”, someone responded. “Je voudrais faire une réservation pour dîner demain à 19h30 s'il vous
plait”. “Oui, bien sûr, combien de personnes Madame?”. “Quatre personnes, et je
préfère une table en bas si possible”. “Pas de probleme” -J
Smoked salmon as appetizer |
The four of us, two couples, went there on Saturday
night. Our Japanese couple friends like French cuisine very much, and it was a
challenge to take them to French restaurant that had never been to in this
town. It is located in 9 Ngo Duc Ke street (District 1) and it is very near
from Dong Khoi street.
Ricard (aperitif) |
My loved one introduced them with Ricard as aperitif for their first time.
It is not my favorite at all -L
The good tasty French home cooking meals can be found in this bistro. Good
appetizer such as fish soup (soupe du poissons et sa rouille) or smoked
salmon/poached egg salad (salade de saumon fume/oeuf poche).
Duck something.... |
Fried Duck |
Le Magret de Canard |
Somehow duck happened to be everyone’s favorite that
evening! Le magret de canard est délicieux! It is duck breast. However, the original le magret de canard comes from the meat
of the same ducks that are specially raised to produce foie gras.
Lamb Chop |
Couscous Mixed with Beef |
Les Crêpes
Suzette as dessert is a good way to end the evening.
