Macau

Macau is not only about casino as what people thinks as first impression.

It is only an hour away from Hong Kong. Just take the ferry, its schedule is very convenient and affordable. You may refer to Cotaijet and Turbojet

Grand Lisboa Casino

Alternatively, we can also go to Macau with plane or helicopter.

Lisboa Casino

My last visit to Macau early this year was a refreshing of my first visit in 1995 (if I am not mistaken).

Rickshaw nearby Lisboa Casino

No worries about transportation in Macau, free shuttle bus is available from/to ferry terminal to casinos/hotels.

Arriving at Macau Taipa ferry terminal, I took shuttle bus of Grand Lisboa casino. It was only 15 minute ride.

Senado Square

Destination? Senado Square and of course the Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral!

Senado Square

Just walk out of Grand Lisboa casino, turn right and go along the street for around 15 minutes. Most people walk in that area is going there anyway… then you will see Senado Square on the right side.

Senado Square

The area is just a mini Europe in China.

St. Domingo's Church, Senado Square

Buildings there are beautiful. One of them is the tourist information center where I went there to get Macau map for free.

Inside St. Domingo's Church
Senado Square

Once we are in Senado Square, there are more signs to find the Ruins of St. Paul’s. Walking there is interesting, small European type of street. Climbing up to the top may not be smooth especially on the weekend as there are tourists busy looking at shops on both sides. But it is worth the efforts, anyway it is not a long way up there.

Tourists who is rushing going to Macau, for the sake of ticking the box, will only take pics in front of the Ruins. However, this World Heritage Site has more interesting to see.

Ruins of St. Paul's from far

Ruins of St. Paul's Cathedral

Just go up and visit the Museum of Sacred Art and Crypt, they are built at the bottom of the Ruins of the Cathedral.

Then, when I was at the top of the Ruins, I could see the beautiful view of city below.

Rolling Stones in Macau

Facts:
  • Online ticket sale was sold out very quickly,
  • Ferry terminals in Hong Kong and Macau were busy on the D day of the concert,
  • The Venetian Macau was crowded,
  • Long queue of people buying the original souvenirs,
  • None of the spectators sat down during the concert!

Second week of December 2013, there I was in front of the laptop, starting 8.30 a.m., on standby - to purchase their tickets online.

When the online sale started at 10 a.m., it was difficult already to get the most strategic seats. At 10.21 a.m., I managed to secure two tickets which seats were my second best choice… the first choice was gone!

At that moment, watching the Rolling Stones live in concert is either now or never.

They still rock!

The Year of the Horse

This is the first time I stayed in Hong Kong during the Chinese New Year holiday.

Office buildings in Central from the Star Ferry terminal

The plan was firm: watching the fireworks…

I missed one the most important fireworks ever: the celebration of 15th anniversary of the establishment of HKSAR (July 2012) – as I had just arrived in HK and was sick. I could only see the reflection of the fireworks on the glasses of the other building i.e. Times Square!

Second firework on the new year’s eve was missed, as my loved one and I thought we could see it from our window but apparently they were hidden by the office buildings.

The third chance watching fireworks on our second new year’s eve in HK was also missed for a different reason. I could peek the fireworks, or to be exact it was the reflection of the fireworks on the glasses of the office buildings in front of our building! When I moved to the very corner of the room, seriously I could see them a little bit…. Him? Zzzz…. He was too tired after cooking our new year’s dinner, plus he was still on medical leave.

Three strikes and we are out on the soft ball game…

The fourth time can’t be missed…

We carefully chose the strategic but less hassle spot: Star Ferry terminal in Central!

Welcome the wood horse year!

I believe all of the good things about it and let’s make it happen.

PS: the last 30 second was the best part of the fireworks. See this link: http://youtu.be/oMFEPgkxGBU

Jumping to 2014!

One of the fun things I do when travelling is to take signature pic. What defines as signature pic? Simply jumping…

Sein Island (Île de Sein), Brittany, France

This pic deserves to be put as the first pic due to risk factor-J

Sein Island (ile de Sein)

I had to be careful when I jumped as I did not want to break my ankle. Do you see the rocks?

Saint Michael's Mount (Mont Saint-Michel), Normandy, France

Mont Saint-Michel, Normandy

My story about this magnificent place is in this link Travel Notes - Amazing Grace - Beautiful Churches

Locronan, Brittany, France

It is one of the most beautiful villages of France…

Locronan, Brittany

Seriously, this town is a member of the Les Plus Beaux Villages de France and won awards of its beauty.

Nice, France

Pic was taken at the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, La Côte d'Azur - French Riviera and here is the story Summer in La Cote D'azur - French Riviera

Èze, southeastern France

The story of Èze is in this link: South of France and Monaco

Volterra, Italy

I thought this town only exists in Twilight saga. But it is real. The clock tower is also real.

The Clock Tower, Volterra

So it is all about V, Volturi, Volterra

Central, Hong Kong

Central is the central of business district in Hong Kong. It is always crowded at any time during the day, week days or weekend.

Queen's Road, Central, HK

So taking pic in the busy place like Queen’s Road is tricky. I jumped so many times when there was less people. Still some gave me weird look. But the show must go on -J Here is a bit my story about Hong Kong

Kowloon, Hong Kong

When there was Terracotta Warriors Exhibition at Hong Kong Museum of History, Kowloon…

HK Museum of History, Kowloon

The Peak, Hong Kong

It is also known as Victoria Peak, where all tourists go when they are in Hong Kong. It is where to be to hide from the busy crowd in Hong Kong.

Shanghai, China

This is the place to be when we are in Shanghai. The Bund is beautiful in day and night.

The Bund, Shanghai

Beautiful Shanghai in the night; Shanghai in the Night

Another version in Bahasa Indonesia; Si Cantik Shanghai

Candi Dasa, Bali, Indonesia

Who doesn’t fall in love with Bali? The island of God.

Villa Kaniksa, Candi Dasa, Bali

Go & Explore! Here is my story Candi Dasa

Pulau Cina, Thousand Islands (Kepulauan Seribu), Jakarta, Indonesia

Other than enjoying the weekend, the purpose of our visit to this island was to check the barramundi fish farm!

Pulau Cina, Jakarta

Jumping is fun, isn’t it?

I get up, and nothing gets me down…

You got it tough... I've seen the toughest around…

That’s a part of Van Halen’s song released in 1983, it’s already 30 years ago…

Time flies…

Welcome 2014!
